Hiking And Walking
There's something primal and satisfying about a good long walk. No fuss, no technique, no bank-breaking equipment: just you, your legs and a stout pair of boots. And of course, if you happen to be walking amid exquisitely beautiful scenery, then that's an added bonus! Pack some sandwiches and a bottle of water and hit some of the loveliest trails out there: the Laugavegur Hot Springs route in Iceland, through a post-apocalyptic landscape of scree and volcanoes; the thick firs and spruces of Germany's Black Forest, inspiration for a hundred fairy-tales; or the mountain ridges of the Snowdon Horseshoe in Wales, where the pretty landscape is just enhanced by the knowledge that there's a train waiting to take you down the mountain at the other end!
