Road trip

Ah, the open road, the dusty highway. There aren't many pleasures to match the anticipation of setting out in high spirits with friends or family, blasting your favourite music over the radio on an epic cross-country journey that plays straight to your inner Kerouac. And it's even better when you're not just on your local motorway but on one of the great driving routes that inspired the likes of the Beat Generation and the Rolling Stones. Get your kicks on Route 66, or indeed on Route 62, her less rhyme-able but even more stunning South African sister. Drive the Great Ocean Road in Australia, stopping to snap koalas and shipwrecks, or the vertiginous cliffside paths of France's Verdon Gorge. You could even go on a troll hunt along Norway's hair-raising Trollstigen ('Trolls' Ladder')...though be warned: we hear there have been sightings!
