Las Vegas

Still a Vegas virgin? Then it's surely time to book the wackiest, wildest and most wonderful holiday of your life: to Las Vegas, an island of neon lights and gambling chips deep in the Mojave Desert, where white tigers play among hotel fountains and “kitsch” gets pushed so far over its limits that it becomes “glorious”. The town they call “Sin City” is its own legend: a garish galaxy of luxury hotels, casinos, spectacles and stag nights (not to mention the famous Las Vegas weddings: fancy being driven down the aisle in a pink Cadillac by Elvis himself?) And you'll have heard the mantra that “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”...which of course means that you can't take anyone's word for all the crazy goings-on: you've just got to see it for yourself!

Saunter down the world's number-one tourist destination, the Las Vegas Strip, a four-mile stretch of gaudy hotels and Einstein-bright skyscrapers. Test your skill at poker or your luck at roulette in one of Vegas' 100+ casinos, from 60s classic Caesars Palace where Mariah Carey and Elton John have performed, to swanky new venues like Blingtastic Cosmopolitan. If you like your hotel stays tinged with terror (and exhilaration), the Stratosphere Hotel between downtown Vegas and The Strip offers bungee jumping and three white-knuckle rides off its roof, while for a more soothing experience you can check out the beautiful floodlit fountains in front of the Bellagio, where 120 jets of water “dance” to classic pop throughout the afternoon and evening. While you're in Vegas, it's pretty much compulsory to take in a show: the city's known as the Entertainment Capital of the World, and with big-budget spectacles from magic shows to Michael Jackson tribute acts, not to mention the world-famous “O” production where Cirque du Soleil meets water, there's bound to be at least one hot ticket you can't wait to get a hold of!
